Langdon 1, Otterton 1 (after extra-time) Otterton win on penalties
Otterton booked a berth in the next round of the Budden Westinsure Devon Intermediate Cup with a superb penalty shoot-out success against higher league opposition.
In what was undoubtedly the Otters result of the season to date, they were good value for the win achieved against an opposition unbeaten in two months in their Division Six campaign.
Otterton began the brighter of the sides bit fell behind with Langdon taking a fortuitous lead from a counter-attack.
The Otters continued to press in all areas and opened up the hosts on a number of occasions with Adam Rolls, in particular, having a couple of gilt-edged opportunities to level.
At the other end of the pitch Otterton keeper Adam Williams was called into action, producing some superb saves.
With time running out it seems as if Otterton’s brave bid would end in tears. However, in the 87th minute Luke Iddon scored with a bullet header from a Mark Dobrijevic cross to send the tie into extra-time.
There were no further goals and so the contest was decided by a penalty shoot-out.
Jonny Dack, Ddobrijevic, Lee Mitchell and Charlie Copleston all kept their nerve to stroke spot kicks home and then Williams produced two stunning saves to seal shoot-out success and bag a place in the next round!
On Saturday the Otters return to their Division Seven programme with a derby game at home to bottom of the table Lympstone.
