Orchard into Madeira ladies’ championship final and meeting with Jacky Howle

10:46 13 March 2014

Its been a busy time at Madeira as the in-house competitions have reached semi final stages.

Janine Orchard defeated Sue Harriott to reach the final of the ladies championship in which she will meet Jacky Howle who saw off the challenge of Angela Denner.

In the 2-wood singles, Brenda Marks won against Jacky Howle to book her place in the final where she will play Jan Roberts or Catherine King.

The last Foxlands of the season saw Madeira go head-to-head with Exonia. In the Exmouth leg Jill Perrin, Veda Bevan, Jean Rainton and Jacky Howle won 28-12, but the four of Christine Macaulay, Sandy Cox, Annette Flockhart and Liz Smerdon were beaten 22-14.

In the Exeter leg both Madeira teams were victorious with Jan Roberts, Jenny Smith, Brenda Marks and Catherine King winning 23-17 and May Dyson, Dee Norman, Janine Orchard and Sue Harriott landing a 28-14 success.

The Madeira men are celebrating two of their teams winning through to the County triples semi finals. That’s after Jim Bradford, Mick Powell and Mike Gorman won 14-13 against Kevin Phillips and his Exonia team whilst Ken Roberts, Terry Reardon and Cliff Skinner defeated a Mid Devon trio 14-13.

Off the rink the Madeira Club rolled the years back last Saturday for a 40’s night! The occasion saw songs, Dad’s Army sketched and ukulele players. A good time was had by all with members playing their part dressing in period clothing. There were land girls, wardens and pinny-wearing housewife’s to add authenticity to the night.
