Olive’s 8 earn the Woodbury and District Sklittles League bragging rights!

The Feathers Inn on High Street, Budleigh Salterton is the home venue for nine teams in the Woodbury Association Skittles Leagues, writes SpursTom.
As such the Terror Pins share the alley with two of their opponents in League C.
For that reason, plus the vast majority of their remaining games are home fixtures, they are scheduled to play seven consecutive matches there.
The first of these took place two Fridays ago against visiting Cannonites with the hosts taking leg one, but losing the next two, the fifth was tied with Terror Pins still ahead by a slender lead of five pins.
They increased their advantage by narrowly winning the next two legs, and with the final leg being all square, victory was achieved by 12 pins with Tony Gooding followed by Chris Gatter as main scorers.
Whilst for Cannonites Paula Woodford came out on top a pin ahead of team mates Alan Irish, Kent Collin and Trevor Vincent.
On Tuesday last week saw a local derby which both parties hate losing regardless of league position! Yes, it was Olive’s 8 against Terror Pins.
It proved to be a very tense affair, there seemed to be some nervous players taking part.
The visiting Terror Pins fresh from that victory over Cannonites got their noses in front with legs one and two.
Perhaps Olive’s 8 were still conscious of the heavy defeat they suffered at their last home game.
However, back they came taking the next two legs, but once again the pendulum swung Terror Pins way to capture legs five and six.
Not to be out done the hosts bounced back again, and yes they won the last two legs, and with it a sigh of relief as they emerged triumphant by just two pins. Terror Pins Tom Pyne was top player on the night, colleague Chris Gatter second, with Tony Gooding sharing third place with Graham Atwell of Olive’s 8.
Whether these rivals will be in the same league next season is still unsure. In the meantime the bragging rights go to Olive’s 8!
