Number Nine B retained their Exmouth Snooker League title, even with a final fixture to spare.

Two wins each for Dan Abrahams and Jonathan Duck and Russell Frame 69-62 in their two encounters against East Budleigh C, plus Dave McCarthy 63-31 against the Number Nine A, put them in an unassailable lead.

However, the two walkovers for Tim Thorn and John Sharland, as the Number Nine A fielded only three players robbed the Police Social Club C of a chance of snatching the title in their final fixture against the defending champions.

Police C are assured of the runners-up spot after Ray Sturman 72-22, John Parrott 46-37 and John Anderson 79-51 snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as Mark Oliver 63-30 and Leo Dolling 48-34 won the two opening frames at East Budleigh C.

Number Nine A are third with Iain Callander 65-26, Tim Parker 62-23, Dion Newcombe’s master class performance 81(35)-48 and Dan Brown 67(32)-44, 4-1 winners at the Police A.

Carl Rowsell 86-76, Mervyn Long 63-48, Pete Abrahams 65-45 and George Webster 72-63 reversed this previous defeat with their ninth victory against the Police B.

The Open snooker final takes place at East Budleigh tomorrow (Friday, May 2) with defending champion, Russell Frame, in as repeat of last year’s match against the number two seed, Mark Rock, in the best of seven frames.
