At the weekend, the annual competition for married pairs was played for the Nora Goldsmith Trophy, writes Jenny Smith.

It was a boiling hot but happy, social day, which included lunch, and which was much enjoyed by the 12 couples taking part, three of whom were given special mention having been married for 55, 56 and 61 years respectively - a wonderful record!

The winners were Peter and Carol Hyett, with an aggregate of 17 points and they were presented with the trophy by Madeira past president John Bellamy.

To end another successful week for the club, Madeira travelled to Honiton with six teams for a mixed triples friendly.

Madeira won on four of the six rinks to take the overall match honours by 94 shots to 86.

The top rink honours were shared between skip Jean Rainton, Keith Weeks and Alan Porter and skip Chris Reed, Brian Poulter and Myra Furminger with each team winning 21-10.
