The November Medal was played at Budleigh last Sunday, writes Paul Willoughby.

Eighty three players braved the conditions – sunny, but cold with a slight westerly breeze in the morning, though that developed into a stiffish strengthening wind with some rain and hail for the afternoon players. Beautiful views as always and some impressive anvils in the sky, heralding rain for someone.

There is a lovely toadstool semi circle on the left of the 15th green (probably Melanoleuca melaleuca, with caps almost six inches across – don’t eat them) which you are only likely to see if you’ve hit a belter of a drive, or topped your second shot into the light rough!

There were some good scores, despite the deteriorating conditions and the leading players were as follows: Division One; 1; Martin Sharp with 67 points from a handicap of seven which no becomes six; 2, Bruce Chapman also with 67 points from a handicap of four (Sharp landed victory via count-back); 3, Dennis Chivers with a net 68 from a handicap of nine, now eight..

Division Two; 1, Neil Jones with a net 67 from a handicap of 15, now 13; 2, Phillip Essex with a net 70 (14, now 13), 3, Danny Barratt with a net 71 (12 now 11).

We have seen Danny in the top three a few times this year!

Division Three; 1, Keith Luff, net 69 (18, now 17) - Well done, Keith. 2, Alan Foort, net 72 (18); 3, Mark Anderson, net 73 from a handicap of 17.

There was a two’s pot of £124 to be shared between seven players.
