If a local race description includes the term challenging Exmouth Harriers Hugh Marsden and Dawn Teed are likely to be there, writes Dave Eveleigh.

The pair were on the start line with 90 other runners for the Charmouth Challenge.

It seems to be an unwritten rule that alliteration in a race title means it will be tough and this race also carries the strap-line ‘the UK’s most southerly fell race’.

There is an eight mile stretch of horizontal running, but at the same time nearly 2,000 feet of climbing!

Marsden’s time was an amazing 60:22, a minute faster than on the same course the year before.

He finished 11th overall, but was again just beaten to the Over-50’s prize.

Teed finished in a time of 82:11 which gave her 60th place overall and she will now be turning her attention to the winter Westward Cross Country League.
