After a number of delays, due to bad weather, the final of the seniors’ Summer Knockout was played between club captain, John Man and Roy Barber, writes Carole Pye.
A nip and tuck battle over 18 holes did not produce a winner, but John Man finally prevailed on the 19th hole.
The seniors’ roll-up took the form of a Texas Scramble which was won by David Freeman, Alistair Robertson and David Morris with Derek Knights, Tony Marshall and Keith Bish the runners-up.
The annual presidents versus captains fixture was played in glorious sunshine although slightly heavy underfoot.
The president’s team took the cup with a fairly convincing 7.5 to 3.5 win.
The format for the weekend competition was an Individual Stableford and as usual the men had an excellent turnout. Noel Pond (38) took the first division followed by James Askew scoring 36.
Scott Howarth (41) was the winner of the second division with Robin Dummelow the runner-up on 39. Scoring 38 points James Hill just nudged David Skinner (37) into second place.
There was only one ladies’ division which was won by Paula Cowl (31) ahead of Elaine Preston with 27.
The previous weekend was a very close fought Three Ball Team Event.
John Man, Ian Kirk and Daryn Hunt with 83 points just edged out Andy Blakemore, David Cawse and Ian Darvelle on count back.
