Madeira ladies have continued to enjoy success on both the national and local stages.

In the national singles section final Jan Roberts won 21-14 against Carrie Hadfield of Torquay United.

Roberts now heads into a match against the winner of the Cornish section and she goes with the very best wishes of everyone at Madeira.

In the County pairs there was a fine 33-12 success for Liz Smerdon and Sue Harriott against the Sidmouth pairing of Sue Mizon and Zena Johnston.

In a Foxlands fixture against Kingsley Madeira picked up points on three rinks out of the four on offer which represented a very good day’s work!

In the home element of the match Jill Perrin, Veda Bevan, Jean Rainton, and Jackie Howle won 35-7 whilst Jan Roberts, Jenny Smith, Brenda Marks and Catherine King won 25-13.

In the meeting at Kingsley Dee Williams, Dee Norman, Janine Orchard and Sue Harriott won 14-13 whist the team of Christine Macaulay, Sandie Cox, Angela Denner and Liz Smerdon went down 34-14.

Last Sunday saw the launch of a new competition, the County Top Club with Madeira paired against Isca.

This was another of those matches that is contested home and away.

In Exeter three disciplines were played; Angela Denner played the 2-wood singles whilst Liz Smerdon and Sue Harriott their match 21-17. Also in action away were Jill Perrin, Jenny Smith, Brenda Marks and Jackie Howle.

Back at Exmouth there were two discipline successes with Jan Roberts winning her match 21-14 and Dee Norman, Christine Macaulay and Catherine King triumphed in their tie 21-11.

Last, but certainly not least for this week; re you bored watching the same old television, trying to keep warm?

If so, why not pop down to Madeira Bowls Club on Friday evening and try your hand at bowling!

The session runs from 4.30pm until 7pm and you can rest assured a most warm welcome awaits all comers – particularly new comers!

There will be coaches on hand to teach to the noble art of bowls to those that require assistance. You never know, it might just be a sport that you take to like a duck to water!
