Madeira ladies’ latest - Captain’s team defeats vice captain’s team

The Madeira ladies’ captain versus the ladies’ vice-captain’s match was made up of five rinks, all working hard to win for their side, writes Mary Ann Dowrick.

However, the captain’s team prevailed and had an overall win 83-71. The top rink for the captain’s side was skipped by Sandy Cox with Fay Hughes and Jean Healey 19-5. The top rink for the vice-captain, Ann Doidge, was skipped by Liz Healy with Dee Williams and Debbie Fox 25-12.

Away at Topsham in the Exeter District League, Madeira had one win and one loss. The winning rink was skipped by Sue Harriott with Jan Roberts, Catherine King and Annette Flockhart 22-9.

By way of correcting errors, (mea culpa), in last week’s report of results, in the Devon Interclub, Madeira B played Plymstock A ad won overall 51-34, while Madeira A played Den and lost 33- 55.

Top rink for Madeira B as skipped by Liz Smerdon with Christine Macaulay, Annette Flockhart and Liz Healy 39-13. This is a knockout competition therefore Madeira A are now out of the competition.

Finally, making it into the County semi-quarter to quarter-finals from Madeira are foursome Liz Healy with Jacky Howle, Janine Orchard and Jan Roberts; while in the Triples Sue Harriott, Liz Smerdon and Christine Macaulay advance and in the Pairs Sue Harriott and Liz Smerdon go forward.
