There has been a change at the top of the Symes, Robinson and Lee evening league, writes Don Huish.

Exonia are the new leaders, taking over from the Madeira Blues. An all-Madeira, Reds versus Blues match ended in favour of the Reds when John Flockhart’s triple won 22–16. Bob Burch salvaged two points for the Blues, winning by five shots.

The Falcons played twice and gained eight points, thanks in no small measure to Keith Edwards, Burges Stace and Brian Crook, who won on both occasions. This trio lead throughout their encounter with Exonia, but their seven shot winning margin could not prevent the visitors taking four points with an overall 37-27 victory.

The second match against the Madeira Reds was altogether different and this flight of Falcons trailed their opponents until the twelfth end. A strong finish saw them prevail by a single shot and indicates this was yet another exciting game for which this popular league is well-known!

Brian Moore’s side, always in command, recorded a 19-10victory which helped the Falcons soar to joint third place behind the Budleigh Hawks.

Meanwhile, away from the Evening League action, Peter Cooper progressed to the next round of the Club’s singles competition after a narrow win over David Blackwell.

Rink honours were shared in a mixed home friendly against Honiton which the visitors won 48-31. Budleigh’s winning rink was skipped by Allan Cottle, who, with Di Lowe , Bunty Hudson and Alan Pearson, had to hang on grimly as they saw their 15–3 lead reduced to only one shot after the final end.
