A team from Madeira won this year’s Budleigh Victory Cup, writes David Roberts.

Played annually, the Victory Cup this year was contested by teams from Phear Park, Sidmouth, Honiton, Ottery and Maderia in a round robin format that always makes for a competitive affair.

The afternoon is also a very social occasion when there is an opportunity to renew acquaintances but also play some serious bowls.

The Madeira team, Steve Stott, Keith Weeks and Ian Thomson, impressively won all five of their matches with a plus twenty score.

The runners-up, representing Sidmouth were Phil Meadows, Stuart Thomson and Peter Mason, who scored plus eight and third was the Budleigh side of Tony Lim, Peter Hillman and skip Gerry Roberts with a score of plus five.

Thanks must go to Marilyn Jackson, Di Dixon and Bobbie Vanstone for a sumptuous tea and to Don Huish for his bar work on the day.

Thanks must also go to club members for their help and participation to make it a very enjoyable day. Prizes were presented by Ron Tyler, a long-standing member, who, over the years has done so much for the club and still maintains a keen interest in its progress.
