Madeira pairs do well at annual Ladies’ Open Pairs event

One of the Madeira outdoor season highlights is always the Ladies’ Open Pairs Tournament, which this year took place on the second Sunday of September, writes Jenny Smith.

Although well down on numbers from previous years, mainly due to a clash with the County Ladies’ Finals, 14 pairs of ladies from four different clubs assembled in glorious sunshine and enjoyed a day of competitive bowling in a wonderful atmosphere interspersed with an excellent lunch and refreshments prepared by ‘Team Madeira’.

It was the closest of competitions with five teams tying on six points, so it was down to shot difference to determine the four prize-winning positions.

The results were as follows: 1, Sandie Cox/Jennie Charles; 2, Nicky Fiddimore/Dee Williams; 3, Ann Bellamy/Debbie Fox; 4, Joan Mansell/Lyn Hambly – all Madeira bowlers. The event was rounded off by the presentation of prizes by Jacky Howle, Madeira President.
