Last week there were some good results on the Men’s County Games, writes Matt Marriott.

Firstly the County Trophy teams are steaming along well with 31 points out of a possible 32, bought about by winning all rinks against Feniton, and winning three and drawing one against Sidmouth. Let’s hope the form remains!

In the County Pairs Jim Wherlock and Martin Eveleigh won their final with a 19-17 result, a close game. In the County Triples Section 3, Ken Roberts, Mick Powell and Cliff Skinner are through to the final of Group A as are club mates Terry Reardon, Bill Davis and C Ralph in Group B to be played on June 15. Good luck to both teams.

The Unbadged Pairs and Triples seem to be taken over by ‘Two CC’s’, they being Colin’s Hughes and Shaw who have won through to the quarter-finals of the Unbadged Pairs as have Richard Taylor and Vic Doidge.

The same two ‘CC’s’, together with Bob Finch, have also reached the quarter-finals of the Unbadged Triples. We await with baited breath to see how far they go.

There has been a change of position in the Tuesday/Thursday League with team four taking over with a one point lead at 10 points, one point ahead of Team 1.

The Over 60s shows Madeira B only being able to take two points against Pinces Garden. A better result for Team D who took all eight points from Ottery C. That is all the results I have this week.

On the friendly side, near neighbours Lyme Regis paid us a visit and, despite winning on three rinks, were unable to manage a win with Madeira taking it by 101 shots to 84. Of the two winning rinks the one skipped by Ian Thomson with ladies’ captain Pat Wilkins, Ken Roberts and Ann Bellamy won by 13 shots at 28-15.

The Monmouth Trundlers were the next to call on their tour of Devon and they caught Madeira napping by not allowing the home team a single winning, rink losing by the high margin of 56 shots at 91-47, I could state who the least losing rink was, but the vice captain may not like it. So Monmouth are now off to trundle over another venue.
