Madeira men edged out by visiting Winscombe in bi-annual meeting

Madeira men welcomed six triples for the bi-annual fixture against Winscombe, writes Jenny Smith.

Each club won three rinks, but the overall match honours went to Winscombe.

Vic Doidge, playing with Alan Halpin and Ian Sowden, had the best result of plus 10 for the home team.

In another men-only fixture, Madeira welcomed Chardstock for a long-standing annual triples fixture which has been played since 1987.

On this occasion Madeira won all four games and overall by 85 shots to 53.

Vice captain Danny Doran and his team of Mike Ball and skip Peter Harvey achieved the best result of the match for the home team, winning, plus 12.

Finally, to end a busy week at the club, David Macaulay led Mike Ball, Carole Worth and Jean Rainton to second place to Sidmouth in the Ottery St Mary Invitation game with their score of plus eight.
