With the County games now well under way it seems that our men are on a roll, writes Matt Marriott.

In the Top Club Madeira won four of the five disciplines against Budleigh Salterton. Then, going one better, all five disciplines were won from Honiton. As they say ‘the boys done good.

In section three the County Pairs of Terry Reardon and Bill Davis took the game at 18 shots to 13 from Ken Roberts and Mike Orchard.

The Unbadged Pairs saw Colin’s ,Hughes and Shaw, get through to the semi-final’s.

At last there are some results to hand from the Over-60s League, with Madeira sides netting mixed fortunes.

As at this week the A Team lay second in their division and the B Team were down a bit in eighth place whilst the C Team are a commendable first!

The E team also top their section and the D team sit fourth.

That certainly means that, thus far things are looking good, but there remains a long way to go!

Four men’s triples took a ride through country to take on Chardstock, no doubt stopping off at the village pub on the way!

Two rinks won and two lost resulting in a close win by two shots for Madeira at 63-61.

The top scorers were David Macaulay with Richard Prince and John Spearing by a margin of eight shots.

It was all away friendlies this week as firstly, four rinks travelled away to Seaton with a close result showing Madeira losing the game by just one shot at 76-77.

Despite Jean Rainton leading her team of David Charles, Debbie Fox and John Spearing to a five shot win at 25-16 it wasn’t enough to claim the day.

This was followed by the away match at Dawlish Marina which, due to the weather, was reduced to 18 ends with Madeira managing a win.

Four rinks took part and resulted in a win for Madeira by ten shots overall. The highest rink of Jacqui Howle, Myra Furminger, David Bagnall and Chris Fox with a score of 24-7 was offset by a Dawlish rink also winning by exactly the same score which cancelled each other out, but with the other two other Madeira rinks managing to win by five shots each the match was won. Typical of our summer, the sun came out as we drove home.
