Madeira ladies’ secure victories over Exonia and Honiton as succesful season rolls on

Madeira ladies have continued to play matches despite the rains that have been making outdoor sport almost impossible of late.

In internal matches there was a fine victory for Sue Harriott over Catherine King in the ladies championship.

Angela Denner, playing in the same competition, edged out Liz Smerdon in a titanic match that was ultimately decided in Denner’s favour by a margin of just one shot!

In the club 2-wood single’s Jacky Howle won a thrilling contest on an extra end against Angela Denner.

In the same competition Brenda Marks defeated Janine Orchard and Catherine King saw off Dee Norman.

There were victories in two matches against Exonia and Honiton.

The trip to Exonia saw Madeira win 52-37.

Madeira won on two of the three rinks with J Allan, Jan Worsfold, M Dyson and skip J Smith winning 22-9 and there was a 15-7 success for the triple of J Perrin, L Halpin and J Rainton. The rink of J Turner, S Lampey, D Norman and S Cox were beaten 21-15.

Next up was a home match with Honiton which saw Madeira secure a 53-47 success. This match was played across triples only as the opposition were unable to field rinks.

There was victory for two of the triples with honours ending even for the other trio.

S Lampey, M Dyson and T Wildon won their contest 24-20 and there was a two shot win at 14-12 for the trio of J Turner, D Williams and V Bevan. The other match ended 15-all with the Madeira three comprising of F Hughes, P Medlock and D Norman.

Last but not least for this week it’s a loud good luck from all at Madeira to club colleague Jan Roberts as she takes on the Cornish area finalist in the National singles Section final.
