Archant

Madeira B continue to do well in the Bowls Devon double-rink Interclub Competition, writes Jenny Smith.

Playing against Morchard Bishop at Culm Vale last Wednesday, both teams won decisively and overall by 46 shots to eight.

The conditions were not ideal as the drought came to an end about an hour into the game, but the heavy rain did not daunt the two teams!

Liz Smerdon skipped her team of Christine Macaulay, Annette Flockhart and Liz Healy to a 26 shots to four win.

Similarly, Sue Harriott’s team of Jan Roberts, Lynne Eveleigh and Janine Orchard won by 20 shots to four.

The next round for a place in the semi-final will be on July 16, against Tiverton West End, again at Culm Vale.

There has been one friendly fixture this week at home against Sidmouth. Played as four triples it saw the visitors win by 68 shots to 52, although Madeira won two of the four games.

Annette Flockhart and her team of May Dyson and Mary Ann Dowrick did well to win by 16 shots to 12 as did Catherine King and her team of Kate Andrews and Shirley Smith who won by 17 shots to 10.
