Lympstone’s Powell powers to superb success at Torbay ABC tournament.

09:56 07 November 2012

Lympstone Boxing Club were represented by a young boxer at the Torbay ABC tournament held at the Riviera Centre, writes Neil Parsons.

Twelve-year-old Connor Powell (45kg) was matched with Daniel Auld (44kg).

Young Powell went into the ring sporting an unbeaten record and he looked very confident from the first bell.

His performance belied his tender age as he boxed right out of the manual!

His opponent looked to take the first round initiative, but Powell, boxing on the back foot, was not fazed and countered effectively with a stiff left jab.

The final two rounds saw Powell take charge spearing Auld with accurate lefts and two fisted combinations.

At the final bell the judges scored young Powell a unanimous winner with those scores being 10-2, 11-3 and 12-5.
