Combe Martin 0, Lympstone 6
The Lympets powered into the next round of the Firewatch Devon Senior Cup with a superb all-round show in North Devon.
In a bright start goals from Jeff Dorman and Anton Hyde put the visitors into the driving seat.
A third was added inside the opening half hour and it might have been more had a Baz McConnell penalty not been saved and another shot cannoned back off the frame of the goal.
The second half saw Combe Martin change their shape to try and bolster midfield and play a bit narrower. However, this merely served to give the Lympets even greater joy down the flanks!
Ballard whipped a fine cross in that Andy Lowe slammed home to make it four. The hosts rallied well, but got little change out of a well-marshalled Lympstone defence who made sure stand-in keeper Benny Canning had a quite afternoon.
Late on Mark Hobbs made it 5-0 from another Ballard cross and this was swiftly followed by McConnell finally getting on the score sheet to ease his frustration and the stick he was getting from team mates!
Boss Mike Delahaye said: “Choosing a Man of the Match winner was a tough job for I felt all eleven players made a case for it. Someone has to win it though and for me it was Jamie Ballard for his goal and three assists together with his all-round work up and down the wing.”
On Saturday Lympstone travel to Honiton for a league game that promises much with both teams having bade god starts to their respective campaigns.
