Lympstone 3, Exwick Villa 0
Lympstone went into their meeting with the Exeter-based side off the back of some poor recent results.
However, the Lympets brushed aside any doubts about their ability to last the pace in a Fresha League Two promotion race with a confident all-round display.
The home side were quickly into gear and created a number of good chances in the opening exchanges., However, as good as the approach play was, the finish was lacking.
The breakthrough arrived when a back pass to his own keeper by a Villa defender was pounced on by Ben Newman who marked his debut for the club’s senior team with a goal.
The visitors responded well, but got little change out of an organised back line and half-time arrived with the one goal between the teams.
The second half saw more of the same with both teams looking to attack. Hayden Figures fired Lympstone into a two-goal advantage.
Exwick came back well , but once again the home defence was more than equal to the task.
The award of Man of the Match underlined the all-round team contribution as the award was shared by the whole side!
Not such encouraging news on Sunday from the Lympets though as the club’s Veterans XI went out of the County Cup beaten 3-1 in a thrilling match against Barnstaple Town Veterans.
