Lympstone ABCs Dean Tribble (63kgs) had a warm up bout at Barnstaple on Sunday prior to his National Schools Championship quarter-final bout at Bodmin on March 23, writes Neil Parsons.

The 13-year-old met the talented Charlie Butterworth, 13yrs and 64 kgs.

Tribble was a little ring rusty and started throwing wild hooks when he was under

Pressure, but finished the round strongly after he got his boxing together.

Tribble was advised by his corner to stick to the straight shots and began to pepper his opponent with slick lefts that took him to a comfortable second round win.

The third round was fought at a blistering pace with both boxers landing good shots, but neither boxer had the power to hurt each other and the round started to get ragged and Tribble began to lose his shape, inexplicably dropping his hands, but had done enough to land a splendid unanimous points decision.

Meanwhile, news that Lympstone ABC duo Jack Silk and Aaron Robinson will compete for the Western Counties Championship at Exmouth Pavilion this Saturday hoping to join Tribble, who has a bye, in those national quarter-finals at Bodmin later this month.
