East Budleigh Chess Club were engaged in another Exeter and District Chess League close encounter last week, writes Brian Gosling.

So close was the match that East Budleigh can consider themselves very unlucky not to bank their first championship point.

The East Budleigh Man of the Match was undoubtedly Brian Le Masurier who won his first ever game in the League.

His individual success on the night made up for the overall disappointment of losing the fixture . The Exeter & District Chess League results can be found at the excellent web site; www.exeterchessclub.org.uk/content/exeter-district-league-results-201314

In February two of our members were hoping to visit the world famous Capablanca Chess Club in Havana, Cuba, which is full of chess history, once being the site of a World Championship Match. We eagerly await their report. East Budleigh look forward to their next fixture which will be at away to Sidmouth.

The club meets on the second Thursday of every month and the next meeting will be Thursday, March 13 with a 7pm start at All Saints Church Hall.
