Withycombe Under-7s bagged a brace of wins at neighbouring Exmouth with a 6-4 win followed by a 7-5 success.
When the two sides went head to head earlier in the season there were two cracking games and this pair of meetings did not disappoint either!
The opening game began at a very good pace and not long after the start Jack Greaves raced clear for the opening try for Withy.
The Cockles powered back to quickly restore parity.
That was about as good as it got for the remainder of the first half for the home side as the Withy defence closed ranks and the pressure on then ball did denied the Cockles time or space to manoeuvre in.
With a solid base behind them, Withy began probing raids forward and tries from Jack Burnard and another from Greaves sent Withy into the break with a 3-1 lead.
The second half was a much closer affair as Exmouth began to press the ball well with real tenacity. Tries were exchanged by the sides in tit-for-tat moves.
Curtis Fraser and Lewis Alford added their names to the score sheet, the latter after displaying great technique with a side-step that wrong footed the Cockles defence.
The try of the game came from Thomas Lawrence who showed great perseverance and awareness to be on the end of three phases of play before he eventually crossed the Exmouth line.
Withy emerged as worthy 6-4 winners but Exmouth contributed much to an enthralling contest.
