Exeter Civil Service 3, Budleigh Salterton 3
Budleigh Salterton twice came from behind to bag a share of the spoils in an entertaining game in Exeter that ended with them forced to share top spot having led the Eastern Division table prior to kick-off, writes Alan Beer.
The Robins started well taking a fifth minute lead. Liam Ellis was brought down in the area and Peter Grover made no mistake from 12-yards.
On 15 minutes the hosts equalised when a long through ball fell for Shaun Densham who, from the edge of the box, lifted the ball over Adrian Pullin in the Budleigh goal.
Five minutes later and it was The Robins going very close to regaining the lead, Ellis firing just over the bar from 20-yards.
This was followed by Grover heading just wide after Tim Nield worked space to get in a cross to the far post.
Ten minutes into the second period the home side were reduced to 10 men when James Clampin brought down Brett Wright and received a straight red card.
On 61 minutes Nick Murray gave the hosts a 2–1 lead completely against the run of play.
The Robins levelled again when Mathew Slark in the home goal spilled Wright’s corner kick and Mark Lever reacted fastest to touch the ball in.
In the dying minutes it looked like a home win when Aiden Barrett fired home from 20 yards. But in added time Grover touched in to give The Robins a share of the points.
Budleigh team: Pullin, Pallet, Carr, Hancock, Nield, Pannell, Ellis, Wright, Lever, Turner, Grover. Subs; Greenslade, Sale, Williams (all played).
This Saturday sees the Robins return to the Graddon Vending Devon Premier Cup and an interesting tie with Plymouth-based side Shakespeare who sit mid-table in the Plymouth and West Devon Combination league.
Last weekend Shakespeare were thumped 7-2 at Plymouth Rangers in another cup tie. In the last round of the County Cup Shakespeare won 2-0 at Exmouth Amateurs whilst the Robins were 2-0 hoe winners over another Plymouth side, Chard United.
Kick-off at Greenway Lane on Saturday is 2pm.
