The last of the season’s touring sides, from the Gloucester Bowls Association, provided stiff opposition.

However, they were eventually beaten by a margin of just two shots!

Budleigh won on four of the six rinks and the final score was 104 shots to 102.

The most noteworthy victory was that of John Vanstone, Alan Purdham, Paul Griffin and Graham Ellis who found themselves two shots adrift at the tea interval (and a very nice cream tea it was too! Thank you Ladies).

After the break their opponents scored on only one more end and the home side rocketed away to win 24–11.

Budleigh’s other winning skips were Harry Vanstone and Rob Jerrard, both plus six and Allan Cottle, plus two.

The carpet has now been uncovered and the rinks are available for play and for the clubs Open Day on Saturday, September 29, when members of the public are invited to try their hand from 10am through until 4pm. with free coaching and equipment provided.

It is a case of many thanks to Dick Mitchell, retiring captain John Vanstone and all those members who turned up to perform the very physical task of converting the clubhouse to indoor mode.

Peter Burch, the indoor captain, will soon be selecting teams for the early matches of the new season and will be looking for support so members are urged to enter for as many matches as possible.

Next week’s report will cover the outdoor season’s final event, Captain’s Day, incorporating the presentation of trophies.
