The Budleigh winter season ladies versus gentlemen match was won by the ladies by a margin of five shots.

Ladies’ captain Dawn Graham with Pat Pearson, Pat Dowen and Bunty Hudson beat Ron Tyler’s side 17-11.

The ladies enjoyed a late rally which saw them recover from a four shot deficit by taking each one of the final five ends. The match on the second rink was a very evenly-balanced affair with Dianzee Lowe and Rob Jerrard’s sides winning nine ends apiece.

Ultimately the men prevailed by a single shot despite heroic efforts from ladies champion Dianzee Lowe.

The final score was 29-24 in favour of the man. It was a most enjoyable afternoon and all present hoped that more such matches could be arranged.

The first of the Symes, Robinson and Lee evening league fixtures involved two home sides, - the Buzzards and the Hawks.

Richard Cooper, Dick Mitchell and Ron Tyler won 21-18 for the Hawks who were looking set for a maximum points win before Paul Griffin’s Buzzards snatched eight shots on the last end! Hawks though prevailed to win 37-36.

In the Exonia evening league, Paul Griffin skipped Wally Nickels, Stuart Spencer and Peter Burch to an 18-15 victory over last season’s runners-up, the Crusaders.

There was further Budleigh success in the Sidmouth evening league when Terry Escott, Richard and Peter Cooper and skip Alan Purdham won their encounter with the Seaton Seafarers by five shots.
