Kent storms home to win East Devon seniors meeting

12:31 07 August 2014

A large field of 96 players set off with high hopes for August’s Seniors Stableford competition and, in general, scoring was not too bad, writes Michael Knpaton.

In spite of the more benign conditions due to the rains, perhaps some of the high hopes were soon dashed and the grass bunkers on the first two holes were getting many off to a bad start.

I also wonder how many golfers left putts short that hitherto had been racing up to and then well past the hole!

However, some of us took advantage of the good conditions and 40 points were posted by Fred Hughes, Norman Forte and Mike Knapton.

Not good enough because former helicopter pilot turned children’s’ adventure story creator (everybody must have a copy of Summer Storm by now), Godfrey Kent, came in with a superb 41 to win the competition.

There were nine twos including one by Andy Scott at the 13th which seems to becoming a far from easy hole.
