Karakusevic stars as Exe II bank point at home to Somerset Gryphons

Exe II 2, Somerset Gryphons 2

Exe II recovered from two goals down to deservedly bag a share of the spoils in a close encounter that was cut short owing to the weather.

The experienced visitors made a powerful start and raced into a two-goal lead.

It was almost as the rain arrived that Exe began to take a foothold in the game.

With some excellent industry from the middle third the visitors found themselves pushed further back with Nicole Thackray proving to be a thorn in the side of the Somerset team.

It was no more than Exe deserved when, in the 30th minute, make-shift forward Becky Rutter popped up to score her first ever senior goal. The equaliser arrived as the result of a well-worked penalty corner that saw Karen Tinley score.

Eleven minutes later then match official called a premature halt to proceedings as the pitch became waterlogged.

Rosie Karakusevic was named the Exe Player of the Match.

It was later announced that the result of the match will stand despite the early end.
