Alphington Panthers 2, Brixington Blues 3

Two-and-a-half months after their last action, Brixington Blues Under-10s edged their way past the Panthers to book a last eight berth in the Exeter and District League KO Cup, writes Alan Diprose.

The lack of match action was evident as Blues fell behind in the very first minute with a number of Blues players failing to make a tackle!

However, the players quickly got over the shock of going behind and began to find their feet in the contest and Sam Diprose was unlucky not to score with a sweet left foot volley whilst Will White was narrowly wide with a couple of direct free kicks.

It was the host team who scored the games second goal, but just before half-time Will White, with his third free-kick attempt, rifled the ball into the net to halve the deficit.

The second half saw Blues go in search of the equaliser with Tom Humphry orchestrating things from midfield.

At the other end, when the Panthers got through the solid Blues back line, keeper Will Cooper was equal to the best they could offer.

With the clock running down, White struck from close range following a corner to tie things up at 2-2.

There was time for one last piece of drama as White broke clear and slotted the ball home to seal a memorable victory.

Every single Blues player deserves much credit for the part they played in a really good all-round performance that takes Blues into a last eight meeting with Heavitree Dynamoes last this month.
