Brixington Blues 2, Sidmouth Warriors 4
Saturday brought yet another East Devon derby for Brixington Blues Under-11s writes Alan Diprose.
This time, Sidmouth Warriors were the visitors and both sides stared well looking to attack at every opportunity. Will White went close in the opening exchanges after a fine Tom Humphry pass.
Owen Shaw and Sam Diprose linked up well on the right to fashion more chances. However, it was Sidmouth who struck first taking a 13th minute lead when a long-range shot flew past the unsighted Will Cooper.
Blues responded well and Owen Shaw broke through only to be tackled superbly. With midfielders Scott Simpson-Currie and Jake Diprose impressive Blues were very much in the contest, but they shipped two late first goal to go into the break trailing 3-0.
A half-time chat clearly had the right effect for from the restart Blues were playing in a higher gear! Sam Diprose cut inside from the right before unleashing a fierce left footed drive to make it 3-1 and then Tom Humphry rifled home a long-range strike to make it 3-2.
Both sides then sought the next crucial goal. Will Cooper made a number of superb saves and Matthew Edworthy was influential in the Blues defence, but neither could prevent Warriors netting a late fourth to seal a narrow victory.
