Honiton Town 2:3 University
Town suffered their first defeat since early October but only had themselves to blame for the end of a nine match unbeaten run.
Tim Genders took a pass from Darren Witt to level things up at half-time and the pair combined again well early in the second half with Witt again sending Gender clear to fire Town 2-1 up. Thereafter it all went down hill as the Student s struck twice to depart with the points.
Boss Gary Osbourne said: “We were off the required pace from the first whistle and it became a bad day at the office for us all. We created enough chances to win two matches, but a combination of poor finishing and some excellent goalkeeping denied us countless times. It is disappointing that the run has ended but it had to go sometime. A real positive for me was the post-match dressing room mood for it was clear that the players were hurting after the defeat just as much as I was. The big question now is what sort of a response can we serve up next time out?”
That next game could not be tougher as Town host champions-elect Tiverton Town who will arrive on Saturday looking to continue an unbeaten away sequence that has seen them win seven successive matches.
