Honiton Netball Summer League has new leaders

PUBLISHED: 07:07 14 May 2014 | UPDATED: 07:07 14 May 2014

There are new leaders at the top of the Honiton and District Sumer Netball league, writes Graham Ingram.

With leaders Pixies without a game it was an opportunity for OPG to go top if they could get the better of Flamingos.

Although Flamingos started with a two goal advantage by half way OPG were in command with a 21-17 lead with Tracy Moran calling the shots from centre. Although Lisa Pemberton worked hard for Flamingos they were always chasing the game and only just managed to gain a point from their 27-53 defeat and, as a result of their win, OPG take over at the top of the table.

Sidmouth Toucans are still looking for a win after four games! Their latest defeat was at the hands of Hi Q. Toucans, with Helen Terry in fine form, were holding a 38-35 advantage at half-time, but the third quarter saw Hi Q draw level at 47-47 leading to a tense last quarter. With Laura French playing well Hi Q moved in front and held on to record their first win, 58-51, and move up to seventh place. Blackdown ladies were in action for only the second time this season when they met Howden Hawks and both were looking for their first win. Blackdown started with a four goal advantage, but by quarter time Howden were level at 48-48. With Nicki Snell playing well for the Ladies they were 57-55 in front at the end of the third quarter. Jill Partiss worked hard for Hawks, but Blackdown held on to win by 63-62 and push Hawks to the foot of the table. Tip Top Trees and JD Tyres had both had similar starts to the season but tonight the honours went to JD who although they started with a two goal lead had increased this to win by a comfortable 64 -50 at the close. Tanya Broom was in fine shooting form for JD whilst Ellie Gillan had a fine game for the Trees.
