Honiton trio land victory in final of Manor Hotel Trples at Madeira

PUBLISHED: 16:37 25 February 2014 | UPDATED: 16:37 25 February 2014

The Manor Hotel Triples Finals were held at Madeira last Sunday, writes Richard Taylor.

The semi-finals took place in the morning with past winners Madeira A comfortably defeating Arbiters 32-9 and Honiton doing likewise against Ottery St Mary, 20-12.

Following lunch an anticipated closely fought final between the Honiton triple and the Madeira A triple of Jim Bradford, Mick Powell and Mike Gorman did not materialise.

After five ends Honiton had a commanding lead of 15 shots to nil. Madeira were not able to find their morning form whereas Honiton were steadily picking up shots with their skip Trevor Pipe in irresistible form.

Madeira briefly rallied to pick up four shots from ends nine, 11 and 12, before Honiton resumed their dominance culminating with Madeira conceding the match after the 14th end with the score at 28-6 in Honiton’s favour.

Madeira Bowling Club are grateful to the Manor Hotel for their sponsorship of this competition.
