Honiton Netball League has new leaders - Pixies take over

With league leaders OPG without a game it was an opportunity for the chasing pack during the latest matches in the Honiton Summer Netball League, writes Graham Ingram.

Biggest gainers of the night were Uplowman who are now the only team with a one-hundred per cent record after their victory over Howden Hawks – a side still looking for their first win.

With Emma Burrough playing well, Uplowman started purposefully to chase down the lead that Hawks started with, and, by halfway they had edged in front by 47-45 despite good work from Jill Partiss for Hawks.

From there they didn’t look back and finished victors by 74-52 to move into third place. Despite losing to Hi Q it was Pixies who went back to the top of the table on goal difference. Hi Q had got in front at halfway and with Amy Fullick on great from in defence the Pixies were finding the going tough.

Although Lacey Dorliac worked hard for Pixies, they couldn’t get back in contention and Hi Q finished winners by 68-38 to move up to sixth.

Both Flamingos and JD Tyres had a chance to equal the points total of OPG, but in a thrilling game, they had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 38-38 draw.

JD started with a 32-2 lead and with Sonia Yorke working hard for Flamingos they began to chase the deficit. Katie White was playing well for JD and going into the final period it was JD who were holding a 37-31 lead. A final push from Flamingos saw them force the draw with both sides now on nine points.

The final game of the evening had Signs South West up against Blackdown Ladies. With Emma Snell playing well for Blackdown they made SSW work hard to get in front, but once they did Jodie Potter came into her own for SSW and they finished victors by 69-46 to move a place up the table to seventh.
