Comets 50, CTC 38

Comets, missing a number of regulars owing to illness, called on all their experience and used plenty of team work as they defeated CTC in an entertaining league match, writes Louise Passmore.

Ali Moxey, normally the Comets goalkeeper, took the goal attack position as she has done on several other occasions, fitting seamlessly into the role, backed up by Tracey Abbott at goal shooter.

A bright first quarter saw Comets take a seven goal lead into the second quarter and they certainly needed the advantage as CTC came back strongly!

In an even second quarter both teams scored 11 times with Sarah Henderson in clinical scoring mood, missing just one throughout the match and her consistent shooting lifted, and gave confidence to the rest of her teams mates.

A flurry of goals and intercepted passes by CTC bothered Comets at the start of the third quarter, but solid defensive work and cleaner passing into the Comets circle gradually pulled them back into the game and they had increased their lead to nine goals by three-quarter time.

Both teams continued to play full on during the last 15 minutes, Comets scoring another 15, three more than a battling CTC team.

It was a confident and assured performance from CTC who continue to improve in leaps and bounds, especially as they now seem to have a settled squad of players.

The respective Players of the Match were Sarah Henderson for CTC and Janko Salzwedel for Comets.
