The fourth round of the Ironbridge Runner 5K Series took place on last Tuesday, writes Dave Eveleigh.
Over 100 runners were on the start line, though only about 20 of these were female. At the front, three athletes dipped under 15 minutes, the first of these being Tom Merson who was timed at 14:53.
Merson was in Bristol and West AC colours, but is locally-based and acknowledges his training with Exmouth Harriers members by being a second-claim member of their club.
Richard Hawes was 29th in 18:52 and third man aged 45–49 whilst Dawn Teed was 79th in 23:27 and first woman aged 50–54.
The pair would be well advised to keep an eye on the Ironbridge Runner website for up to date positions in their categories. If they finish September’s run both of them will have run the four races required to be considered for series prizes, and it would be helpful to know who their near set rivals were!
Andrew Johnson was timed at 20:09 in 45th place, that’s just 40 metres short of a sub -20 minutes time!
Lee Russell was 72nd in 22:19, a very encouraging time for one who races so sparingly.
Karen Hawes could have made do with a vicarious enjoyment of running through partner Richard, but decided it was more fun to join in, coming 104th in 28:49 (she should though bear in mind that some aces attract a higher proportion of serious runners than others and this is one of them).
