East Budleigh Res 2, Amory Park Rangers 2
East Budleigh Reserves had to settle for a point from this fixture last Saturday thanks to a late equalizer from Polish Grzegorz, writes Mark Auton.
Budleigh started on the front foot and were ahead in five minutes; Ryan Britton’s cross for Alex Manning lead to a corner from which Matt Jones rose superbly to head home from Mannings’ kick.
The home side continued to control; Both Jack Howarth and Ben Wyatt were denied when set up by Manning.
Budleigh’s failure to add a second proved costly as Amory lashed the ball into the net from their first clear opportunity.
This gave Amory confidence and but for a fine block from Adam Wheatley would have taken the lead.
Unfortunately for Budleigh the visitors did score again as the teams took their half-time cuppa.
Budleigh knew they had to up the tempo in the second half; Both Ben Wyatt and Steve Davey had shots charged down, whilst Manning drilled a left foot screamer just over.
At the other end Budleigh keeper Mark Bown saw his woodwork hit three times and was thankful that both Wheatley and Rich Wyatt made timely tackles.
Seven minutes from the end Davey’s shot was deflected into the path of Grzegorz who slid in to direct the ball past the away stopper.
The result was probably a fair one in which Bown received the Man of the Match award.
There is no game for the Reserves this Saturday, but the First X1 return to action in Division 1 when they entertain Tiverton Town reversing the fixture as Tiverton First team also have a home game.
