Withcyombe 5:5 Kingsbridge
Withycombe under-8s took on Kingsbridge and shared ten tries with the visitors in each of the morning’s two encounters.
The first game saw Sam Skinner burst through several tackles to score the opening try.
Kingsbridge responded well, levelling soon after and this set the tone for an end-to-end game.
In the closing stages it needed a magnificent try saving tackle from James Griffin to ensure that Withy got the draw their contribution to an excellent encounter deserved
As well as young Skinner the other try scorers were Charlie Passmore with a double, James Griffin and Alfie Gillard.
Game two started as quickly as the first with excellent rugby being displayed by both sides on a very heavy pitch.
New boy Joseph Bowden showed great promise with excellent running and tagging and was unlucky not to score on his debut.
With four regulars missing and hands becoming increasingly colder, the boys dug deep and it was Man of the Match James Griffin who led the way with two tries.
Great running and support led to a try for Paddy McGuinness and there were further scores by Alfie Gillard and Sam Skinner.
However, Withy were then guilty of some sloppy miss-tagging that allowed the Kingsbridge speedsters to race their side back into the contest and they matched the five scores of Withy as another very entertaining game, one superbly officiated by the Kingsbridge coach, ended all square.
