Great start to new season of Exmouth Netball League action

It has been a great start to the new Exmouth Netball League and the new venue at the Tennis Centre is proving a real success, writes Louise Passmore.

We now have two courts available which has enabled the league to expand and accommodate 10 teams this year.

Hopefully, we will be able to encourage new teams to join us, especially as the Tennis Centre is running ‘Back to Netball’ sessions on Thursday evenings starting at the end of October.

If you feel you would like to get involved please to get along to one of the sessions, or why not simply come along to our matches and let us know you want to be involved. We are a friendly lot and will point you in the right direction.

In terms of the opening matches of a new season, pride of place goes to the Wasps Juniors who are a new side. They first defeated Replay 61-23 and then saw off Firebirds 40-27.

In the latter game the respective Players of the Match were, for the Wasps Juniors; Mel Mugford (goal attack) and for Firebirds it was Leonie Rowe (goal shooter)

Comets also won their opening two matches as they followed a 56-12 triumph over CTYC with a 35-23 success against Bicton.

The Comets greater experience saw them through against CTC in a match that saw the top individual awards go to Comets goal attack Cara Monahan and the CTC goal attack Lucy Chappell.

In the win over Bicton in which shooters Tracey Cartwright and Cara Monahan were in a clinical mood, the top awards went to Sally George the Comets’ wing attack and Bicton’s goal defence Sally.

Wasps were 91-25 winners over a Sidmouth Toucans side making a most welcome return to the league after a season away. It was a very friendly game throughout and Toucans never gave up the fight, but unfortunately for them Wasps were that little bit too much for them.

The top individual honors went to three players in this match with two wasps’ players heralded, goal attack Nicola Field and centre Gemma Downing whilst the Toucans Player of the Match award went to wing defence Jo White.
