Young Robins finding life mighty tough

20:27 04 September 2014

Budleigh Salterton Reserves are a very inexperienced side this season and last Saturday the youngsters who make up the bulk of the Robins’ Reserves were painfully made aware of the large gulf in stepping up from Under-16s youth football to the Premier Division of the Fresha Devon and Exeter League, writes SpursTom.

They were taken apart fifteen nil (15–0) by a Thorverton team making full use of their superior physical strength and experience.

The shell-shocked East Devon lads never recovered from conceding within seconds.

Unfortunately the situation within the club makes it impossible to introduce the younger players gradually.

For the midweek encounter with Seaton it was felt many senior players needed some competitive play time, hence a strong side was put out under the guidance of the first eleven management team.

They were kept out by an outstanding display from visiting keeper David Perham, before eventually going down 0-2 to goals by Seth Wakeley and former Robin Mike Hancock.

Home keeper Simon Savage broke his toe and joins Alex Richardson on the side-lines, leaving the reserves without a glovesman to call upon.

On the previous Saturday, the season commenced with a visit to Chard Town. Josh Mingo scored both goals in the 2-6 defeat, bringing some cheer to what has been an unhappy opening period to the campaign.
