Archant

The second Saturday of February was a washout with just one game played in the Fresha Devon and Exeter Football League.

It means that its now six successive Saturday’s that the local football schedule has been decimated by the weather!

Since the turn of the year, across the six match days that there have been so far, just 58 matches have been played across the nine divisions.

On a regular match day the norm would be to see at least 65 matches and so the latest statistic reads 58 games played out of a possible 390!

The one game that was played was at the impressively weather-resistant Acland Park home of Feniton where an Under-11 game took place in the morning after which Feniton Reserves won a Fresha Division Six meeting with Beer Reserves 3-0.

There are just eleven Saturday’s remaining between now and the end of April.

In the Premier Division Tiverton Town Reserves still have 20 matches to play! As things stand they have dates for a dozen of those games (according the www.full-time.thefa.com website which lists all the fixtures) with their ‘final’ outing being a Saturday, May 3 meeting with Beer Albion.

With no end in sight to the current weather woes it seems inevitable that local footballers are going to be very busy right into the cricket season which always starts, in terms of the County league, on the first Saturday of May – that just 12 weeks fro this coming Saturday (February 15!).
