Amory Park Rangers 3, East Budleigh Reserves 1

Despite defeat East Budleigh Reserves performed well in this one and had the better of the first period with some slick passing and strong attacking play, writes Mark Auton.

Quickly out of the blocks Louis Jeans went close from keeper Mark Bown’s pinpoint clearance whilst Steve Davey was unfortunate when his rifling shot came back off post and into the home keepers arms.

The Budleigh defence of Adam Wheatley, Matt Jones, Pete ‘the pole’ and Rich Wyatt were doing well until a lack of concentration allowed the hosts to score.

Minutes late Budleigh’ s confidence was dented again as Amory grabbed a second, but with Ben Wyatt tirelessly grinding away in midfield Budleigh were still in the game.

Greg Konopka was Budleigh’s goal scorer taking Daveys’s chipped pass, holding off two defenders before coolly finding the back of the net.

A sloppy pass in the Budleigh rearguard saw the Tiverton side finish clinically, before Budleigh laid seige to the home goal in the dying minutes but to no avail.

Man of the March for Budleigh was Ben Wyatt, with fine efforts from Konopka, Davey, Jones and Wheatley.

On Saturday Budleigh entertain Topsham (2.15pm) in a league game.
