Colaton Raleigh 5, Woodbury 2

Raleigh eased their way into the last eight of the Bill Slee cup, but were made to work hard by an excellent Woodbury outfit.

Raleigh started at a blistering pace, and were two goals up within the first

four minutes. Mark Pavey’s right wing raid ended with Adrian Parr scoring and just a minute later Parr turned provider to set up Pavey to make it 2-0.

On the quarter hour it was 3-0 as Pavey once again outpaced his marker before squaring for Parr to score from close range.

Woodbury were not down and, with Wayne Rowsell and Andy Bennett encouraging and driving on their team mates, reduced the arrears via a shot from Craig Leaman that took a wicked deflection off a Raleigh defender.

Former Yeovil player Richard Hill, belying his 42 years with an assured display in midfield, then burst forward to volley in a superb goal to make it 3-2.

Chances came thick and fast at both ends and Raleigh glovesman Declan Lines twice denied the Woods an equaliser.

After the break there was more of the same from both sides, but it was the hosts who got the all-important first goal of the second half.

A Damian Armes free kick was played back by Mark Pavey to Ben Farrington who rifled the ball home to give Raleigh a 4-2 lead.

With ten minutes remaining Tony Cox sealed the Woods’ fate with a fine finish.

The Colaton Raleigh Man of the Match award was shared by Jake Boyland and Damian Armes whilst Matt Tett and Declan Lines were also outstanding throughout.
