Woodbury AFC - a mid-season report on the campaign so far

PUBLISHED: 09:23 30 January 2014 | UPDATED: 09:23 30 January 2014

The three Woodbury teams were all left without action last Saturday as the rain again decimated the Fresha league programme.

A waterlogged surface at the Archery Club saw an end to the first and second teams hopes of action and it was a similar case for the third eleven who were due to be at Bradninch.

The quick thinking Woods management quickly arranged an in-house friendly on the artificial surface at Exmouth Community College.

Woodbury boss Adam Reid explained the move saying: “I felt it was important we gave the lads the opportunity to keep their fitness levels up as there has been so little action since the festive break owing to the weather.”

The Woods senior side occupy a mid-table berth in Fresha Division Three, but boss Reid wishes to remind his troops that they are in a better position this season then they were last season and last term they were still able to finish runners-up!

He says: “Momentum is a lovely thing and if we can go on a run like we did last season we can still occupy a top four spot. It’s all a bit disjointed at the moment due to the weather, but if we can get going I’m sure we can fly.”

Woodbury have been buoyed by some of the young reserves stepping up to the first team this term.

The Woods Reserves have been without a game since December 21 and they sit tenth in Division Seven whilst the third team are on course to achieve a high finish in Division Eight, though in their case much depends on how the teams currently above them fare in their remaining games.

On Saturday the Woods senior side travel to Tedburn St Mary, the seconds host Newtown and the third eleven entertain Bampton.
