West Hill gloves man Fowler plays key role in Exeter Youth League win in Plymouth

DJM League 2 Exeter Youth League 3

The Exeter and District Youth League Under-12s, including a number of players from East Devon, served up their best performance of the season as they deservedly beat the Plymouth DJM side on their own patch.

The match was played on an artificial surface and in conditions more suited to wind surfing than football. West Hill gloves man Jordan Fowler was at his confident best and he made some important saves during the contest. However, the Exeter League side made a good start and Ollie Holman gave them a fifth minute lead. Louis Winteridge was outstanding on his debut and, with Sam Pyne and Bailey Branton prominent on the flanks the lead looked like being added to until the youngsters were caught out by not playing to the whistle and the home side levelled.

After the break the home side took a 2-1 lead, but, with Ollie Benson making an impressive debut and Tom Simmons becoming ever influential, it was no more than the Exeter League side deserved when Branton equalised.

With Winteridge and Jake Pond driving the side forward the match-winning moment arrived when a Branton corner was powered home by Pond top seal a famous win.

Exeter Youth League coach Paul Hawkins said: “It was a tremendous performance and fantastic result that means we remain unbeaten against all other youth league sides across Devon this season.”
