Upottery do some giant-killing!

Goal!

Goal!

Archant

Upottery managed to do some serious ‘giant-killing’ when they booked a place in the Morrison Bell Cup semi-final.

The villagers beat Budleigh Salterton in the last four, scoring the last of the game’s five goals five minutes from time!

Trailing to an early goal Upottery levelled through Steve Morris and then took a 2-1 lead when Jason Kennard struck.

The Robins made it 2-2, but Upottery were not to be denied and a superb header by Gary Moore in the 85th minute took the villagers through.

Boss Dan Prettejohn said: “It was no more than we deserved. They (Budleigh) paid us great respect by fielding a strong side, so this is a big scalp for us. A place in the Morrison Bell Cup final is just reward for my players who have been tremendous this season.”

Upottery’s cup exploits are not yet over for they face Sidmouth Town Reserves in the semi-final of the Grandisson Cup at Ottery St Mary, the scene of their famous win over Budleigh Salterton, on Wednesday (May 14) with the kick-off being 7.30pm.
