Upottery boost Fresha Division Three title hopes with Tedburn triumph

Upottery added five more goals to their impressive tally to 97 for the season as they won their penultimate Fresha League Division Three game.

With just one game to play – away at Sidmouth Town Reserves on Saturday April 19 – the villagers need to win at Manstone Lane and then it would need University to win all six of their remaining matches to deny Dan Prettejohn’s side the title!

Jamie Girton, who starred throughout from a right wing berth, bagged a brace and the other Upottery goals came from teenage goal-machine Sam Winslade, Joey Jones and there was a rare goal to savour from Danny Symons.

Prettejohn said: “We were good in all areas and I am not worried about the three we shipped as two of them came when we had gone down a gear or three! The bottom line for us is now to go to Sidmouth in a fortnight and if winning there does not win us the title then it’ll only be because the students have finished with a stunning run to their campaign.”

Whatever happens over the coming weeks Upottery are already guaranteed the staging of Fresha Division Two football at Glebe Park next season.”

Prettejohn says: “It would be nice to go up as champions. We remain work in progress as a club, but I think we are going in the right direction.”

Upottery are in Sunday action this weekend with a Grandisson Cup tie at Woodbury (2.30pm).
