Archant

Topsham Town were beaten 2-1 by reigning Fresha League champions Feniton in the one game to survive the weather on a soggy start to the new year.

The Tops trailed 2-0 at the break, but battled back well in the second half and, but for some excellent saves by the home gloves man, might well have returned to their Coronation Field home with at least a point.

Mark Layfield was outstanding through out for Topsham and there was also a very impressive shift from18-year-old goal keeper Joe Sellick playing only his second game between the posts!

The second half goal brought to an end the drought that had seen the side without a goal in three outings since a 5-4 defeat to Thorverton on November.

An eighth defeat of the term for the Tops leaves them on 15 points having played 15 of their 26 game league season.

On Saturday they play their first home game since the December 7, 0-0 with Budleigh Reserves when they host Heavitree United.

After that they have back-to-back away games at Willand Rovers Reserves and St Martins.
