Last Saturday saw Exeter City win their third game on the bounce, in the league, with a 3 - 0 win at home to Burton Albion, writes Richard Tuson.

This comes after two wins on the road at Aldershot and Accrington Stanley. This was an impressive result considering Burton had defeated Championship side Leicester City 4-2, away from home, in the League Cup the week before.

Burton started the stronger but when Arron Davies’ cross was headed into the penalty area by Alan Gow for Jamie Cureton to volley the ball into the net after 19 minutes, the Grecians looked dangerous whenever they went forward.

Davies scored his first goal as an Exeter player just before half time when Cureton turned provider for Davies to shoot past Ross Aitkins in the Burton goal. John O’Flynn made it a comfortable end when he tapped in Guillem Bauza’s cross in the 89th minute. The win puts Exeter second in League Two and the opening defeat, to Morecombe, a distant memory.

●City were in action again on Tuesday night in the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy but were knocked out 4-3, on penalties, after a goalless draw.

The game saw many changes in the Exeter team, from Saturday, and the only highlight in the first half was when City had a goal disallowed for an infringement in the box.

The second half saw City playing much better with Alan Gow creating numerous chances, but sadly it was not to be and with no extra time they paid the price in the penalty shoot out.
